The UNESCO Category 2 Centre for World Natural Heritage Management and Training, at the Wildlife Institute of India,Dehradun, is organising a two-venue festival in February 2017: Celebrating Natural Heritage: In Literature, Arts & Culture. The event will take place at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, and the Great Himalayan National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Himachal Pradesh.

The Natural Heritage Festival, the first of its kind in India, aims to celebrate India’s spectacular natural heritage through creative arts. While the main focus will be on writing, there will also be sessions on sketching/painting, cartoons, filmmaking. It will also highlight the conservation ethos and nature in local culture through music, dance and untold stories of the local communities that dwell in World Natural Heritage Sites. An exciting line up of authors, scientists and filmmakers is also being organised.

In the spirit of celebrating India’s long history of nature writing, and encouraging a continuance of the tradition, the effort is to find among India’s youth; budding Nature Writers, and young conservationists. A Nature Writing Competition is organised looking for talent in writing and a passion for nature and conservation.

So send in your writing about nature and the best three entries will get a chance to attend the festival at Great Himalayan National Park and the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. This includes participating in the workshops, interacting with prominent authors, writers, filmmakers and scientists at the event, and a chance to learn from them. Travel, accommodation costs for winners will be covered.
